About the education programme

"It was the best fun I've had playing music in Galway - ever!"
- A ConTempo Summer School student

The Galway Ensemble-in-Residence works to bring a love of music to children who have
no previous experience with music, and to enhance the experience of young people
currently studying music.

A young, vibrant quartet, ConTempo have a natural gift for working with children. Their enthusiasm spreads quickly around the room when they engage with young people.

ConTempo's education programme consists of:

  • Workshops with schoolchildren: Every year ConTempo hold several workshops with schoolchildren from throughout County Galway, in association with the Galway Education Centre. These sessions introduce children to string instruments and to the fun and magic of making music.
  • ConTempo Schools
  • Work with local orchestras. Throughout the year, ConTempo Quartet attend rehearsals of the Galway Youth Orchestra and the NUI Galway Orchestra, guiding their members and playing along with them.
  • Work with young musicians. ConTempo Quartet also work with the children of the four County Galway music schools: East Galway School of Music in Glenamaddy, Music Matters in New Inn, Young Headford Players and Coole Music in Gort.
